Costumes and clothing reflect a character/person’s personality, interests, age, job, economic status, etc. An example of this is someone who is wearing business attire. From this, you judge what their job is, business, and what their personality is like, strict. Or a homeless person, who is wearing dirty clothing. Costume designers use this idea to make costumes and designs when making a character.
Color Theory also plays a huge role in conveying a person's personality, job, and economic status. Color Theory is when a color can convey attributes of a character, whether it's from clothes, makeup, props, lighting, etc. An example of this is how many villains in movies or T.V. shows wear black because black is commonly attributed with evil. I love to use this idea when creating a color palette for one of my characters.
